There was a guy I knew who said that if you wait long enough, most all your questions will be answered over time. Eventually, we receive the answers we seek, especially to that question that we all voice, “What’s going to happen then?”

We all peer into the future, wondering how our lives will turn out 5, 10, or 15 years down the line. Just reaching that time “milepost” answers the question.

I Really Don’t Like Technology.

To do my job and live my life, most of the time I set aside my built-in aversion to technology. I often just grit my teeth at the introduction of new technology that could be seen coming 5 years away. Knowing that the tech is coming, whether I want it to or not, doesn’t make it any easier to accept.

The prime example I can name was the inevitability of transponder chips in keys that were tied to cars’ computers. I really, really didn’t want to deal with this technology, but here I am. . . with thousands and thousands of dollars tied up in chip-based inventory and related tools. At one time, I thought chip technology was a line in the sand that I wouldn’t cross, but it happened.

I Don’t Take Plastic for Payment.

Despite the pressure of widespread technology, there are other lines in the sand that I have not crossed. When you call and request my services, you will find that cash is king and plastic is not even possible. I’ve never seen the need to give away 4 percent of my gross for someone else’s convenience. I am close enough to the end of my career to stick to that.

So, if you are reading this, consider yourself forewarned. I am willing to lose a little business to receive immediate payment. If that doesn’t suit you and you insist on using a credit or debit card, you will have to find someone else to do your lock work. It’s a hard truth for some, but I have to do what I feel is best for my overall business plan.

I Will Not Be Part of Blockchain Based Cryptocurrency.

I see other technology coming at us that I know I will not be part of. That is the blockchain based cryptocurrencies that many predict will be at the root of the cashless, cardless society. Yes, credit and debit cards have an expiration date for their use sometime in the near future. That’s even more reason for me not to invest in the technology to take plastic.

But we have reached a line in the sand—a big one and possibly a career-ending one. Along with the cryptocurrency that is coming, the government, in order to get its cut, will require I.D. that will be chip-in-hand technology.

Please don’t just dismiss me automatically as a conspiracy nut. Chipping people has already started to happen in this country.

Right now, large companies are setting up “voluntary” programs to chip their employees for the convenience of maneuvering through the security that these companies have installed. It is only a tiny step to require individuals to be chipped in order to do transactions with a new, government-issued computer cryptocurrency.

My Aversion to This Tech is Biblically Based.

Yes, a lot of my aversion to this type of technology is Biblically based. What appears to be just a few years down the road may even be just a year away, and it is exactly what born again Christians are warned about in Revelation, especially in chapter 13. I fall into the born again Christian category.

At the present time, the anonymity of cryptocurrency is its biggest selling point. No one, including the government, need know that you buy, sell, and trade in cryptocurrency, at least for now. At some point, the government will trot out its own cryptocurrency with chip I.D. attached, so that transactions can be tracked and gains taxed, of course.

This brings us back to the original question referred to at the top of this article: “What’s going to happen then?” The answer, of course, is, I don’t know. By the time this type of technology is installed and participation is mandated, it may be a crime to be a Christian and believe what the Bible says.

Back in the days of my early adulthood, I never thought I would live long enough to see the days that we are in now. But I have, and I guess time will answer those questions we have.

I Will Continue to Help People with Lock and Key Problems as Long as I Can.

Just know this: I will go as long as I can. I am a locksmith, and I will continue to help people with lock and key problems as long as I can. If the government says I have to have a chip to work, well, I just won’t get one.

Wow, heavy stuff for what is normally a fluffy, lightweight article on locksmithing. But sometimes things have to be said and lines drawn, so that you can decide if you want me doing your lock work. Some of you might not after this article. So be it. At least you know exactly where I stand.

So, for now and for the foreseeable future, call me with your lock and safe problems. I’ll do my absolute best to solve your problems. You just may find that the lower prices I offer are worth the little loss in convenience of not using a card. Call me at 618-466-9347, and let’s talk about the solutions for your problem.
